Criminal Injury Compensation Claims
If you have been injured as a result of a crime it may
be possible for you to claim compensation from the Criminal
Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA).
The CICA is a government funded compensation scheme. The
scheme has strict guidelines about awarding compensation to
the victims of crime. In most instances, if you have the correct
documentation regarding your criminal injury and you can
demonstrate that you meet the requirements to receive
compensation, then your claim will succeed.
To meet the requirements for criminal injury compensation
you must be able to show that:
- You received a physical or psychological injury as a
result of an act of crime.
- Your injury required medical treatment from a GP or
hospital
- The injury occurred in England, Scotland or Wales
- You reported the crime to the police straight away
- You co-operate with the police during their
investigations.
It is not necessary to instruct a solicitor to deal
with a claim to the CICA.
The CICA scheme will not pay out for Solicitors costs in
addition to your compensation. However, you may feel that
the assistance of a knowledgeable Solicitor may ensure that
the award you receive is appropriate and includes all the
losses that you have incurred.
If you feel that you would be
better represented in that way you should contact Robinson’s
